First Blush

“Dad, may I have a taste of your wine?” I look up to see her blue eyes casting down on me, head cocked and a wide smile across her face. Her right arm is slung over my neck. She tilts on her hips, balancing her weight on one leg. Her fingers scratch my neck coyly. I take a moment to adjust. I’ve been absorbed on the web. It takes me a moment to process her words and shift back to Daddy mode.

Jordan the Shredder

It was our first day on the slopes. We scheduled a private lesson for Jeanette and Jordan. It was hard to contain Jordan’s excitement. She chattered constantly and told every stranger that this was her first day snowboarding. The outfitting took longer than expected and Jordan was not pleased with the uniform selection of grey boots. She wanted pink or magenta. But she settled for grey. We weren’t able to make her leg splints fit into the boots, so she went out without them, which was just fine by her.

Fun in the snow

One More Run We started our first full day of vacation in Beaver Creek today. Jordan couldn’t wait to go out and play in the snow. Within the first 10 minutes of her frolicking she managed to make a snow angel, bean her brother with snowballs, build a “girl fort” and roll around in it for awhile. She’s having a blast. This afternoon we borrowed sleds from the front desk and tackled a small hill.

Another Round

Jordan Holds Court at Dinner She is doing brilliantly well. Though I haven’t posted for some time, rest assured. She is buoyant, industrious and sometimes charming. We’ve been celebrating her new-found dedication to school. Over the last few weeks, she’s attended nearly every day and made it through day far more often than usual. She’s proud of this accomplishment. She enjoyed a two-week break from chemo, but tomorrow she’ll start again–with customary resolve and annoyance.

Jordan Does Homework

Jordan does her homework She’s been very interested in reading and writing. Though she still struggles with letter shapes, she makes more attempts each day. Today she worked with Jeanette to craft a diorama of photos and artifacts from her “Make-A-Wish” trip to Walt Disney World last year.
