The Breakfast Mate Returns

Jordan is doing better. Her speech is only slightly slurred. She’s alert and feeling good.I rolled out of bed at my usual time this morning, threw on some old workout clothes and headed out for my daily walk. Before I left, I tiptoed into Jordan’s room. She slept through the night balled up under the sheets, only a tassle of hair peeking from the folds. I worried, how would she be today.

The Bitter Pill

We rushed Jordan to the emergency room at CHLA today. She tripped, fell and hit her head while she was at summer camp. She seemed fine at first, but then the staff noticed a change in her behavior. She became agitated. Her speech slurred together. When Jeanette arrived to pick her up, Jordan was clearly frightened. She knew what was happening. Her brain was letting her down again.I arrived at the hospital before the girls did.

Mellow

8am on a promising Saturday morning. The kids and I fix breakfast and debate the latest in animated movies with our mouths half-full of homemade waffles. Nettie sleeps in. I peak in on her. The sheets are pulled to her chin, her head burrowed into the pillow. The kids head off to their respective rooms while I open the patio doors in our family room to welcome the warm morning air.

Many Goodly Creatures Are There Here

She has an alter ego. Actually, she has several. She fluttered around the house a few days ago, wrapped in pink and purple scarves and various fashion tidbits never meant to co-exist. She had removed her splints (the molded plastic braces that help her walk and provide support to her ankles) and proceeded to skip across the floor. One of her scarves was dragging dangerously close to her feet so I advised caution.

Scheduled Downtime
