the journey

Force of Will

I am fascinated by biographies of famous leaders and public figures. I have little interest in the tawdry details of their sex lives. What I’ve always found interesting is how significant events in their early lives shape the nuances and strengths of their adult careers. Thus Teddy Roosevelt’s childhood asthma led to his robust interest in physical fitness. His doctor-prescribed retreats west fueled his later passion for the American frontier (he was sent to Arizona to dry out his lungs).

Craziness

Jordan is doing great. She’s on week #3 of her chemo cycle and holding up well. She has even been cooperative during accessing, which makes the nurses (and her parents) very happy. I’ll post more soon. Luc and I are in Whistler, Canada for our annual father-son-snowboarding- watch-dad-break-or-tear-something trip. We’re posting pictures on our “Flickr”:https://flickr.com/photos/larryvincent/ site.

Update: Stable

Jordan’s MRI went well. She did not like getting accessed and fought the nurses more than usual, but everything otherwise went as planned. The radiologist’s report is due tomorrow, but a preliminary scan by her doctor seems to show stable progress – no new growth (and no new reduction). She’s a little groggy from the anesthesia. Tomorrow she begins her new chemo cycle.

Graduation

We have good news to share. At her weekly appointment for physical and occupational therapy, Jordan was told that she has graduated. She has achieved all of the goals her specialists set for her. She will soon be fitted for shorter, more flexible leg splints and will continue rehabilitating her legs on a self-directed program. She has reached a major milestone in her journey – and she’s rightly proud!
